What's New

The Saucony Peregrine 13 is a versatile daily training trail shoe designed to provide runners with the comfort and agility needed to fearlessly attack any trail. The shoe features Saucony's signature PWRRUN foam midsole, which is protective and offers good energy return making it ideal for long-distance training runs and hikes. A rock plate is set below the midsole, creating a confidence-inspiring shield from sharp rocks and trail debris. Furthermore, the updated rock plate is more flexible and designed to offer a better balance of protection and nimbleness on technical terrain.

The Saucony Peregrine 13's updated mesh upper is now more durable and more sustainable thanks to its recycled material construction. The PWRTRAC rubber outsole features a 5mm lug configuration that is highly grippy, and runners will enjoy sure-footedness with slip-free traction on all kinds of trails. With all these new features combined, the Saucony Peregrine 13 will have you crushing your daily training runs and progressing toward your trail running goals.

The Bottom Line

One of the most notable features of the Saucony Peregrine 13 is the exquisitely balanced midsole. The shoe is protective enough for comfortable long runs while maintaining a lightweight and agile design that is excellent when tackling technical terrain. With its improved flexibility, the Peregrine 13's updated rock plate produces smoother, more natural transitions through the gait cycle, and the Peregrine 13 will deliver improved performance over long distances.

The shoe's outsole was a notable highlight, as the grippy 5mm lugs provided our testers with ample traction on a variety of different trail surfaces. The updated upper was another improvement over versions past, and our reviews found that the Peregrine 13 delivered an excellent lockdown that remained irritation-free throughout testing. Overall, the Saucony Peregrine 13 is a reliable and versatile shoe that will give runners the confidence they need to take on anything from carefree hikes to gruelingly long trail runs.

Individual Thoughts

ErikOverall Score: 9/10

The purpose of the Saucony Peregrine line has always been to deliver a race-ready shoe with enough cushion to keep you comfortable as the miles add up. For a while, the Peregrine had turned into a stiff, heavy shoe that was more about getting from point A to point B rather than going fast. The Peregrine 12 revitalized the line by delivering a well-balanced running experience that was on point with the intentions of the line. Now, the Peregrine 13 has further fine-tuned that experience. Version 13 is relatively light (9.2 ounces) and keeps its nimble and fast feel. There are other options better designed for the needs of race day, utilizing new foams and carbon plates. That said, the Peregrine continues to lead the way as a daily training or fast-day option for the trails.

Having never tried the Peregrine and not knowing exactly what to expect throughout testing, version 13 caught me off guard, and it now sits atop my favorites list with the Nike Terra Kiger. The Peregrine delivers almost everything I need for runs under the 8-10 mile mark, and I enjoyed the Peregrine's soft and responsive midsole, highly secure fit, and lightweight on-foot feel while testing the shoe.

I wish the Peregrine 13 provided a little more protection over longer efforts, but for daily training runs, the Peregrine was awesome with its highly versatile midsole. I think Nike comes out on top aesthetically, but the Peregrine is a good-looking trail shoe, as well. If you are choosing between the Peregrine and Kiger, I would recommend the Peregrine if you run more regularly on technical terrain, but overall, I highly recommend the Peregrine 13 for any runner looking for a reliable training shoe.
